A shortage of N95 masks worldwide has led to important developments on campus with the Nanos Foundation. Undergraduate students from BYU's Sensors and Applied Biomechanics Engineering Laboratories helped develop a way to turn a regular cloth mask into an N95 mask. Using a process called electrospinning, student researchers create membranes comprised of trillions of nanofibers that trap particles—including viruses.
