Poland has been a member state of the European Union since 1 May 2004, with the Treaty of Accession 2003 signed on 16 April 2003 in Athens as the legal basis for Poland's accession to the EU.

As president of the Council, Poland coordinates its operations and promotes collaboration between the EU member states. From 1 January to 30 June 2025, it is Poland's turn for the second time to hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Poland joined the European Union on May 1, 2004, under the Accession Treaty signed on April 16, 2003, in Athens. As an EU member state, Poland influences the decisions made within the European Union.
