Dec 18, 2023 · Basically, on my PS3 on 4.90 (evilnat, CEX) I want to put OtherOS on a USB drive. In the CFW options, theres an OtherOS section that lists a few things (specifically resizing VFLASH/eFlash and installing petitboot.) If I want to use an external drive for Linux, can I use those options without restoring/resetting my PS3?

PS3 Hacks and CFW was born from the attempt at restoring OtherOS support to the PS3, it opened the door to many finds and goodies in the attempt at restoring this.

OtherOS installation implies the creation of an OtherOS partition on the internal hdd so you can install Linux on that dedicated hdd partition.. You only have to create the OtherOS partition once, when it's done, as long as you don't change hdd, you should never have to do it again.

Oct 20, 2024 · What Sony did by removing OtherOS was a very bad and evil thing. One of the reasons I originally purchased a PS3 was because I could install Linux on it! In fact, Sony got sued by the European government for the forced removal of this feature. The reason they removed it was due to Geohot glitching the PS3's hypervisor from OtherOS.
