This amp has KT99 (pentode) & EL34 (triode) output tubes tied together for both SLAM and mid-range sweetness. This is brilliant, how come nobody else is doing this? I suspect it’s largely because of the extra cost providing twice as many tubes while not increasing the power.

Jun 7, 2006 · With a KT88/6550 configured as pentode, an easy 10W could be had per tube (a triode-connected KT88/6550 would yield only half as many watts). The hard part would be in providing enough clean input voltage swing to drive the pentode to its full output.
