HSCI brings together 1000 scientists from across Harvard and its affiliated hospitals to advance stem cell biology and translational medicine in a way no other single entity can.

The HSCI always has a variety of cats looking for their forever home: kittens, adults, short-hair, long-hair, tabby, exotic. Our pets are vetted and handled regularly by staff and volunteers so they are healthy and socialized! This page is updated frequently as new cats come in and others go home. Pet bios are subject to change.

We are a network of more than 325 research faculty and their labs across the university’s schools, centers, teaching hospitals, and partner companies, working together to advance stem cell biology and discover new treatments for patients. Our mission is to cure human diseases.

We channel world-class resources, both intellectual and technological, toward some of the most prevalent, devastating diseases for which stem cell research holds promise. HSCI provides early funding for innovative projects in stem cell research through Seed Grants, Junior Faculty Programs, and the Barry Family HSCI Innovation Award.

The Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) is led by Faculty Co-Directors Douglas Melton and David Scadden, and Executive Director Brock Reeve. They work alongside the Executive Committee, which includes top scientists from our broad network of Harvard schools and affiliate hospitals.

In July 2008, the Harvard Stem Cell Institute iPS Core Facility was created to accelerate research in the stem cell field by facilitating the derivation and distribution of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell lines.
