Jun 21, 2009 · There is nothing special about the SAF-XO. Castrol doesn't make SAF-XO any more, and hasn't for many years. The replacement product is called Transmax Axle Longlife 75W-90. SAF-XO did _not_ have the friction modifiers in it that would be necessary for most clutch-type limited-slip differentials.

Nov 7, 2014 · Castrol/BMW branded SAF-XO 75W-90 is equivalent to Castrol Syntrax Long Life 75W-90. Castrol/BMW branded SAF-XJ 75W-140 is equivalent to Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip75W-140. Take a look at these links, and yes I know there are some very subtle differences, but IMHO they are essentially equivalent.

Jul 26, 2018 · It seems to me that in the USA, the recommended oil is BMW # 33117695240 or Castrol SAF-XO (Long-Life) which are basically the same oil but packaged differently. Here in Canada we have none of these and the recommended oil is BMW # 83222445460 which I believe is imported from Germany.
