In aviation, a strake is an aerodynamic surface generally mounted on the fuselage of an aircraft to improve the flight characteristics either by controlling the airflow (acting as large vortex generators) or by a simple stabilising effect. In general a strake is longer than it is wide, in contrast to a winglet or a moustache.

Feb 8, 2014 · I had lifting strakes added to my pontoons and as I've mentioned here a few times, there are leaks that resulted from the welds that are behind the strakes. We have pressure tested the toons and sprayed them down with soap solution and there are no leaks that can be seen around any of the welds.

May 19, 2014 · most "performance" packages will not have the strakes on the outsides of the outer toons. a full length middle toon will give you more flotation and a better ride. the bennington uses an elliptical middle toon that also aids in letting the boat lean in the turn.

May 30, 2024 · These will produce lift that gets your pontoon on plane faster and stay on plane with less effort. This intern saves on fuel and adds a little speed and performance to your boat. Enhances rough water performance as well.

Jul 31, 2017 · Has anyone installed lifting strakes and have pictures of where they attach? I want to find out if i need to modify trailer to accommodate placement or if they are not necessarily need to be level with bottom of pontoons. I have ordered 5"x 5"x 1/8" aluminum angle but would like to see what works best. Thanks Slow Motion

Aug 14, 2002 · Strakes improve tracking and maneuverability, just like a skeg. They produce a little bit extra lift (not much) and they separate the water from the hull which reduces drag at planing speeds. This improves speed a little bit and also reduces sprays.
