The Zanzibar Animals Affection Society (ZAASO) is a community-based registered non-profit organisation that provides shelter, adoption, foster care, rescue, and medical treatment and services to animals in need.

Zaaso is the oldest and most famous animal charity on the island, having been created some 20 years ago by an amazing Dutch lady Anna Van Den Berg, who can still be seen today running around the island rescuing and treating animals.

ZAASO is a hub of activity for animals requiring medical treatment in Zanzibar. No animal is turned away and patients include donkeys, cows, goats, dogs, cats and sometimes a bird or a monkey. All volunteer funds go directly to keep the NGO going.
