Young Sound (Danish: Young Sund) is a marine channel with a fjord structure in King Christian X Land, East Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. The fjord was given the name "Young’s Bay" by William Scoresby in 1822.

Tyrolerfjord is a fjord that stretches deep inland west of Young Sound and north of Clavering Island, forming the northern shore of the island. To the north lies A. P. Olsen Land.

Oct 7, 2020 · Several features in Young Sound allow for this fjord to be particularly low productive. First, as it is located so far north, the growing season in Young Sound is very short. Sea ice tends to break up around mid-July (Figure 2) and a short-lived algal bloom follows (Figure 1).

The high-Arctic fjord Young Sound in Northeast Greenland was chosen as study site. The fjord was covered by sea ice for approximately 10 mo during 1996. Despite highly fluctuating seasonal air temperatures, the bottom water temperature remained almost constant at -1.2 to -1.8°C throughout the year.

Mar 5, 2018 · Young Sound-Tyrolerfjord is a high latitude (74°N) fjord system in Northeast Greenland that is approximately 90 km long, 2–7 km wide, up to 360 m deep, and covers an area of 390 km 2 (Figure 1a; Rysgaard et al., 2003). The fjord hydrography undergoes a significant seasonal transition.

Main factors steering the Arctic fluvial discharges into the Young Sound are the snow and ice melt and precipitation in the catchment, and extreme events like glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs). Waves are subordinate and only rework fringes of the delta plain forming sandy bars if the exposure and fetch are optimal.

Aug 19, 2014 · Young Sound is the outer part of a relatively long and narrow Arctic fjord at the northeast coast of Greenland (Figure 1). Tyrolerfjord constitute the innermost part of the fjord, and together with Young Sound, the fjord system is about 90 km long from the fjord head (∼74.60°N, 22.10°W) to the fjord mouth (∼74.24°N, 20.17°W).

Dec 7, 2018 · Here, we have identified the sources of fluorescent DOM (FDOM) in a high Arctic fjord (Young Sound, NE Greenland) influenced by glacial meltwater. The biological transformation of FDOM was further investigated using plankton community size-fractionation experiments.
