Oct 8, 2017 · Paralleling Sequatchie Valley and forming its southeast wall is Walden Ridge, the narrower of the two unequal parts into which the valley divides the Appalachian Plateau. Walden Ridge is also a relatively narrow, linear feature, but wider than the valley, averaging about eight to ten miles wide and generally rising to 2,000 feet in elevation.

Over the years, what had originally been called Walling's Ridge became Walden's Ridge. Centuries prior to the Civil War, it is believed that the Creek, Cherokee, and other Native American tribes used Signal Point to send fire and smoke signals.
