The WDM-2G is a class of diesel electric genset locomotive used in Indian Railways. It is one of the rarest locomotives in India with only two units being produced by Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW).

WDM systems are divided into three different wavelength patterns: normal (WDM), coarse (CWDM) and dense (DWDM). Normal WDM (sometimes called BWDM) uses the two normal wavelengths 1310 and 1550 nm on one fiber.

In this example, we use the topology optimization feature from the inverse design toolbox lumopt to design a wavelength demultiplexer for 4 channels. We target a 10nm transmission band around the center wavelength of 1270nm, 1290m, 1310nm and 1330nm. Between the channels, there is a 10nm gap for isolation.
