How reliable is the VR6 engine? [X-post from /r/GolfGTI] - Reddit
Jan 14, 2016 · I've been doing my best to restore a 2001 vr6 glx to "new condition" over the past year. I've replaced the timing chains and guides, coilpack, maf, plugs n wires, engine mounts, cv joints, sway bar links, ball joints, tie rods, struts and springs, all bushings in the suspension, wheel bearings, oil pan, oil filter housing, coolant reservoir, upper rad …
What are common problems of the 2.8 VR6? : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
From personal experience, VW dealerships also don't know what to do when they see one. If you have a BDF and need maintenance on anything even adjacent to the motor you are limited to experienced V.A.G specialist shops. And yeah, a lot of peripheral things here and there fail over the lifetime of the car but the motor itself is nearly ...

Sep 23, 2021 · The VR6 dates back to 1991 and was originally supposed to be a Diesel engine. They have gotten many updates over the years, but it really hasn’t changed much since it was first out in the B6 Passat. Porsche reworked the cylinder head of yhe VR6 and they ran that as the V6 option until the 2018 model year.
DIY Timing Chain Replacement = One happy 3.6 VR6 FSI (BLV)
Jun 27, 2023 · It’s basically a narrow angle V6 but the first two generations were officially called VR6 by VW. Later although VW for some reason decided to just use V6 as the terminology. Also, that’s not the engine cover that you’re seeing, it’s all part of the intake manifold.
Which motor is better for reliability in the atlas? 3.6 vr6 or ... - Reddit
Sep 23, 2021 · VR6 is more reliable than 2.0 by a mile. Even the new 3.6L, I would take it any day over any 2.0 offered for this big of an SUV. If it's lower miles, any concerns are warranty. If it's higher miles, any concerns are likely already corrected. FWIW, the only 150K+ Atlas I've seen so far was a 2.0L. :) So really it's up to what you're looking for.
VW Golf MK4 1.8T vs VR6 : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
You won’t make as much power as the 1.8t when modded (unless you boost the vr6) but the VR6 is more reliable, sounds better, and the bottom end torque is more enjoyable. The 1.8t is certainly easier to work with, but with the VR6 being so reliable, that doesn’t even matter!

May 9, 2013 · The mk3 VR6 GTI made the 0-60 sprint 0.7 seconds faster than the EM1 Civic Si at the time (and I love both of these cars). It was VW's ace up their sleeve to keep their hot hatch fresh and competitive. But now, technology has advanced and everyone has stepped up their game. VW came out with the 2.0T, and Honda's got the K20 in the competing ...
So, 2.0T or VR6?? : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
The VR6 is supposed to have 60-80 more hp than the 2.0T engine, but the bigger engine and AWD system gains extra 500+ lbs to the car, which almost cancel out the extra hp from the V6 engine. In other words, the VR6 engine is not performing notably better …

2015-2017 VR6, though the TDI is more fun. Engine and trasmission are solid. Though other things can go wrong, such as LED DRL (try to find one with those replaced it is a $2,000.00 job mine went bad 2-weeks before my CPO expired!) or ACC Cameras. My works 1 out of 20 times, and dealer says I need a new camera.
2.8 VR6 vs 3.2 VR6? : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
May 5, 2024 · I love the VW Golf MK3, and I love the 2.8 VR6 for its really deep raspy sound. It sounds meaty, and torquey, like the engine is, but it’s mostly found in older VWs like the Golf MK3, which I don’t complain about since I love those, but some do 3.2 VR6 swap on older VWs.
