The Old Red Medical Museum at UTMB, preserves and showcases Galveston’s medical heritage. It is a pre-eminent local, national, and international leader in generating historical and contemporary inspirational stories that educate future generations.

Jul 12, 2021 · Dr. Ben Raimer, UTMB president ad interim, recently announced the formation of the official Old Red Medical Museum steering committee, part of an effort to establish a medical museum in UTMB’s oldest building.

On campus and throughout the larger Galveston community, the building is known simply as “Old Red,” for its red pressed brick, red Texas granite and sandstone. Commissioned by the board of regents of the University of Texas, the building opened its door to the first medical class in 1891.

Guests will have the opportunity to visit the newly renovated third floor of Old Red and take a behind the scenes tour of the historical anatomical collection.
