I think you are correct about the number of poles in your motor. Sounds like the tachometer is already configured for a six pole motor.

May 13, 2015 · Success! After much digging, it turns out that this gauge was designed for the OMC 8 pin wiring harness and OMC has a full wiring diagram available on their website. These are really nice gauges and can be made to work with older operating systems.

Jul 14, 2008 · Also, have a question on the "send" wire to the Gage. The instructions show a diagram of a wire going from the "send" pole on the Gage to what looks like the throttle control. An arrow points to this wire and for Mercury it says "gray" so I'm assuming that is a gray wire.
