Feb 8, 2025 · This stove came with my house (built in '76) and was installed by the original owner. I think it was in the living room fireplace originally, because I also inherited a bunch of iron fireplace surround pieces. But is was eventually moved to the basement, where it still lives. It was used mainly for coal burning by the original owner.

If you need this for installation clearance to combustibles, simply go by the NFPA 211 Standard for unlisted stoves. This gives reduced clearance to combustibles down to 12 inches with proper heat shield.

Feb 6, 2025 · -stove is 6" from combustible wall behind (with double stovepipe) as per manual instructions-a floor pad or hearth underneath which is 4 ft wide and 4.5 ft deep which far exceeds the manuals specs of 30 in by 24 in. - a window on either side of the stove behind that stove spaced 5 ft apart (so the stove is centered in a 5 ft gap)

Jan 27, 2025 · If I don't close the bypass damper, the stove does get hotter (stove pipe temps, stove top temps, and even the cat temp is better - cat temp is more in the middle the "thermometer"). But I don't believe just running the stove with the bypass damper open is correct. I know it's definitely not efficient. Not sure if there are safety issues...
