Removal of the old valve seat is fairly simple if you have the right tool, called a seat wrench. Insert the seat wrench into the seat and turn it counterclockwise. Once you get the old seat out, be sure the replacement seat you buy is an exact duplicate.

There are two issues: 1) The sink is uneven so the drain does sit flush; as I tighten the assembly underneath, the drain pulls to the right. 2) There isn’t a recess that accepts the rubber gasket AND the flange, so both sit above the bottom of the sink.

As you've seen, silicone is not the best option for sealing drain flanges. Disassemble the drain. Scrape all the silicone off the sink and flange. Roll out a good size bead of plumbers putty around the sink flange lip. Seat the drain flange in the putty. Tighten the drain retaining nut. Remove the excess plumbers putty that squeezes out.

A valve seat placement might be needed if your faucet is leaking. The job could take a few hours and some specific tools, depending on the materials you have on hand.
