The DIW Pre-Professional School supports students ages 3-17 and youth from D.C. communities, training artistic excellence at the highest level to build life-long skills and confidence through compassion, empowerment, academic discipline, emotional support, and nutritional guidance.

Dance Institute of Washington (DIW) operates a pre-professional dance school offering world-class training in Ballet, Modern, African, Hip-Hop and other genres of dance for students ages 2.5 to 22 years-old. Help us advance racial and economic equity in dance.

The Division of Indian Work (DIW) has been a key contributor to the Native community for over 70 years. Our mission is to support and strengthen urban American Indian people through culturally-based education, traditional healing approaches, and leadership development.

Registration for Fall 2024 training is now closed. For Ages: 2.5 to 7 years-old. About the Level: Training at the Dance Institute of Washington begins in the Early Division. This division has 4 levels: First Position I, First Position II, Plié I (Age 5), and Plié II (Ages 6-7).

DIW's School of Dance offers students, ages 2.5-22, equal opportunity to train as pre-professional dancers. 80% receive scholarships. Its Pre-Professional Program, ages 6-22, provides training in ballet and diverse disciplines, preparing dancers for careers in dance.

At the School of Dance and at partner locations, students ages 2 to 22 receive pre-professional training in classical ballet and diverse dance disciplines, coupled with dance health, nutrition, academic enrichment, life skills, mentoring, and workforce development.
