My Florida Girl series aims to showcase the often forgotten natural beauty and unique biodiversity of Florida through a feminist perspective. Inspired by my childhood spent growing up in Tallahassee, I paint young girls standing as protectors of Floridian inhabitants, amidst a wide-range of Florida’s natural environments.

Sarah Painter & Cosby Hayes have been painting together since 2017. In 2023, they got married, combined their names, and Painter Hayes was officially established. Painter Hayes has traveled the world painting community driven murals.

Nov 20, 2024 · Sarah Painter Hayes will be in residency at WMA through early November, where she will be researching Alabama ecology and our natural landscapes.

Visiting artist Sarah Painter Hayes will show you her techniques and style that helped create her Florida Girl series. She’ll guide you through color mixing, drawing, and painting your own portraits.

Based in her hometown of Tallahassee, Painter lives and works alongside her boyfriend and fellow artist Cosby Hayes. Sarah Painter is a figurative painter and graduate of Florida State University’s College of Fine Arts.
