Mar 21, 2016 · In 1988, students at UNC expressed interest in getting a Rameses mascot that could attend indoor events (such as basketball games) and help promote spirit across the campus and surrounding communities. At the time, UNC was the only school in the ACC without a costumed mascot.

Feb 10, 2021 · Rameses XXI, whose retirement as Carolina’s live mascot for nine years was announced last fall, has died. The Horned Dorset ram “died peacefully in his barn surrounded by loved ones Monday afternoon,” according to news reports.
