ZFS Capacity Calculator | TrueNAS Documentation Hub
Dec 13, 2023 · Determine the usable capacity and other metrics of a ZFS storage pool and compare layouts including stripe, mirror, RAIDZ1, RAIDZ2, RAIDZ3, and dRAID. Total Disks in Pool: Add Disk (TB):
RAIDZ2 with 5 Drives - Performance? | TrueNAS Community
Dec 21, 2023 · The largest number of drives for my NAS rig as currently planned is a total of 5 disks and I would like the protection of raidz2. This is the limit for two reasons: The case I want badly can only support 5 disks without modding, and …
Should I RAID-Z1 or RAID-Z2? | TrueNAS Community
Jun 7, 2011 · So RAIDZ2 gives you an additional level of protection by having another safety net of 2 drive failure. With such large capacity drives, there is a larger chance of more bits going bad quicker and the pain in restoring large amounts of data and the relative cheap price of 2tb storage I would strongly urge RAIDZ2.
RAIDZ expansion, best method when increasing disks and
Nov 22, 2022 · If you're upgrading the existing you're stuck with a 10-wide raidz2 for ever (or until raidz expansion becomes release, whichever comes first). But, if this is in a 12-bay server ("may add 1 or 2 disks"), you can plug in (up to) two new 10 TB drives, replace existing drives while they are still in the array and then remove the replaced drives ...
RAID-Z2 vs Striped Mirror (RAID10) Performance comparison
Jun 5, 2021 · RaidZ2 otoh provides more resilience (any 2 disks can break) and in the case of 6 disks, 67% space efficiency (vs 50%). Performance should also be more than enough for nextcloud and plex. There are very strong cases for pools …
what is the best raidz configuration, and how to set it up?
Jun 9, 2011 · Or, create a single vdev using RAIDZ2 with the 6 disks, this will use 2 parity disks and give you the same 8TB of storage. The advantage of two vdevs is that it will double your IOPS compared with a single vdev, but you do run the slightly increased risk of losing all your storage if two disks die in the same 3-disk vdev.
Some differences between RAIDZ and mirrors, and why we use
Jun 12, 2016 · Yes, RaidZ2 can withstand two drives being lost (but then you are at the "edge of a cliff" if you don't get that addressed). So say you setup 3-way mirrors, in that sense you have the similar redundancy as RaidZ2; however you are using 2 of the drives for redundancy and only getting one drives worth of usable space...
Can an existing RAID-Z2 be extended by adding disks?
Aug 16, 2014 · Intel E3-1230v5 (3.4GHz) Skylake CPU | Supermicro X11SSM-F | 64 GB Samsung DDR4 ECC 2133 MHz RAM | One IOCREST SI-PEX40062 4 port SATA PCI-E (in pass-thru for NAS Drives) | 256 GB SSD Boot Drive | 1TB Laptop Hard Drive for Datastores | Three HGST HDN726060ALE614 6TB Deskstar NAS Hard Drives and one Seagate 6TB Drive (RAIDZ2, 8.72TB healthy usable space) and one 1TB NVMe (for development ...
Is there still an "optimal" number of drives for each raidz
Dec 4, 2021 · It talks about RaidZ1 + Spare vs RaidZ2 but the reality is the same when comparing RaidZ2 + Spare vs RaidZ-3. The more drives you have in a vDev, the less flexibility you have. The more vDev you have, the more performance you get. As such, to put too many drives in a single vDev will not be as beneficial as having more vDevs with fewer disks each.
