Jul 22, 2016 · While RAID60 will give you the best space, RAID10 will give you the most secure option, rebuilds are not putting pressure on the remaining disks, recovery time of a failed disk is much lower, read and write speeds are faster (even though you say this isn’t an issue).

Mar 7, 2014 · Looking at the options when building a new array for holding and running our Virtual Machines. 8 x 900GB drives As far as I can see both would have a 50% overhead, the RAID 10 would give less penalty on the write but a small chance of failure should 2 mirrored drives fail (Compared to any 2 in the RAID 60) What would you recommend out of these two?

Jun 9, 2017 · In a RAID60 if you lose one of the RAID6 spans (3 drives fail), then presumably you would lose the entire RAID60 volume. Is that correct? Does that mean it’s more reliable to just split the data into two RAID6 arrays if possible? You are correct. Each RAID 6 set is one “drive” in the RAID 0. Lose any and all is lost.

Jul 22, 2014 · 1. I assume you meant 3.7TB disks. 2. Those disks take a LONG time to rebuild. Assume a disk fails and is replaced, a raid6 over the entire 24 disks will take significantly longer to rebuild than raid60, and the smaller the raid6 group in each 60 the better in that regard (so 8x3 raid 60 will take shortest time, but at that point you lose 2/3 your capacity)
