Two excellent photos (copyright Pete Harlow) showing Prestleigh Viaduct before and after. This was possibly the cruellest thing to happen to the S&D post-closure.
Prestleigh Viaduct, of which nothing now remains. Evercreech New station stood conveniently on the edge of Evercreech village next to a lime kiln, which once provided considerable business for the railway. Milk traffic was also prevalent here.

Jan 25, 2012 · Site of the Prestleigh Viaduct. It was behind the house and joined the embankment on the right by the trees. Built in 1874, the line was closed in 1966 and it was demolished in early 1993. (Jan 2012).

The Remains of the Somerset & Dorset Railway Permanent Way
Sadly this stops where the eleven arch Prestleigh Viaduct stood (demolished 1993). After the viaduct’s short remaining embankment, the S&Dpw now disappears into grassed over fields including the buried Cannard’s Grave cutting and its collection of twin arch farm access bridges.

Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway - Wikipedia
Brought under joint ownership in 1876, the S&DJR was used for freight and local passenger traffic over the Mendip Hills, and for weekend holiday traffic to Bournemouth. Criticised as the "Slow and Dirty" or the "Slow and Doubtful", it closed in 1966 as part of the Beeching axe despite protests from the local community.

Apr 19, 2020 · This viaduct survives today as a Grade II listed structure, and can be viewed from Kilver Court. The second photo focuses on Prestleigh Viaduct, which survived until the late 80’s before being demolished by controlled explosion.
