PRR Duplexes and Experimental Engines ( S1, S2, T1, Q1, V1 etc.)
The answer even in the Forties was a V1 layout, two 'articulated engines' powered separately by their own turbines, making better use of the capacity of a Q2 boiler. (Apply all the changes listed above to the slightly-modified boilers used on V1s...)

PRR Duplexes and Experimental Engines ( S1, S2, T1, Q1, V1 etc.)
Moreover, PRR probably had higher hope on the Project V1 than S2, so I can understand that why this project was dropped even though S2, an oversized test bed, was performing well enough to beat early Diesel at high speed (only).
PRR Duplexes and Experimental Engines ( S1, S2, T1, Q1, V1 etc.)
PRR's managerment probably thought that since S1 #6100, a duplex, was already using conventional gears while the two T1 prototypes, also a pair of duplexes but scaled down a bit, equipped the cutting-edge poppet valve, thus the T1 phototyprs and S1 were good enough to provide the data they needed. So they ignored the suggestion by BLW.
Strange Swedish Locomotive - Trains Magazine - Trains News Wire ...
Oct 4, 2021 · Dave, Yes direct turbine drive, like a PRR S2, although I think the turbine is on the pilot deck. And of course, you don't hear "chuff-chuff" but "swooosh" "In 1932, in conjunction with the Nydqvist and Holm company, Fredrik Ljungstrom developed a very successful 2-8-0 steam turbine locomotive, based on an existing conventional design, for ...
New DCC Starter Set - Model Railroader Magazine - Trains.com
Mar 15, 2018 · Brakie, The NCE PowerCab is nice, but it's not a "step above" the Zephyr Xtra. Sure, the PowerCab is "walkaround", but it isn't really. To keep the trains running while unplugged, you need to buy the SB5 SmartBooster for another $220.
Wiring Layout for both DC & DCC - Model Railroader Magazine
Jan 7, 2014 · The only way to safely operate a DC/DCC layout is to have one or the other operate at one time, not both at once. That is accomplished with a DPDT center off switch back at the beginning of your power sources to the track, or layout wiring, only one power source can be on at one time, eliminating the possiblity of a problem of messing up something.

Adjusting sound volume on older locomotives
John, In my experience, the design of the enclosure and the quality of the install makes the most difference in terms of volume. This was especially apparent when comparing the modeler made installs of soundtraxx TSU's in HON3 locomotives to the Blackstone K or C 19s.
Dedicated Computer for JMRI use with Digitrax
Feb 18, 2013 · A 32 bit OS will be fine for a long time, I don;t see JMRI going 64 bit any time soon. And the Digitrax programs are DOS, except for Soundloader, and that's 32 bit and not likely to change any time soon either.
