The P70 was the first of the Pennsy's 80-foot all-steel coaches. Over 1,000 of the cars were built by Altoona and several other car builders between 1907 and 1929. The early cars featured 88 seats, but as of 1926 they were built with 80 seats.

The PRR MP70, also known informally as the "double-deckers", was a class of electric multiple units manufactured by the Pennsylvania Railroad for use on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). The Pennsylvania Railroad manufactured three prototypes in the 1930s and a full fleet of sixty cars in 1947–1949.

The common P70 coaches, built from 1914 to the 1920s, were standard equipment for the clockers. Longer trains in the early years (and during commute hours) had parlor cars, diners and “club” series parlor-buffet cars.

Feb 21, 2025 · In 1933, the PRR began to include ice-air conditioning in the cars. These air conditioned coaches were reclassified as P70R. Jan 30, 2016 · There were several versions of the ECW P70. They did a "as built" hot P70. a "streamlined" P70FAR coach, and two versions of the P70FBR, one with a round or balloon roof, the other with a clerestory roof.

Apr 23, 2022 · The PRR P70 coach model (of this type!) was introduced to the Nason line in 1936 (they had a sand cast aluminum version out in 1934). For me the size and style of the car are visually attractive, and I like to think Carl Appel felt the same. This car is lettered for his famous Norfolk & Ohio layout.
