Although the Google maps show a route through Kalupahana Bambarakanda road to Ohiya this is not motorable in a normal car – you need a 4 wheel drive or a motor bike. Directions from Ohiya Railway Station to Hill Safari

Today you will trek from the highest point of the entire Pekoe Trail (2,170 meters) along the road to Ohiya towards the iconic “Devil’s Staircase”, which is the steepest downward descent of The Pekoe Trail.

The road to the right will take you on a longer but less challenging route to the Ohiya Road. The left route is approx 3 km ( marked in red) and the right route (marked in green) is approx 7.5 km. The short route is somewhat straightforward without many diversions.

Spanning from Kaluphana to Udaveriya, this road offers a thrilling journey, descending from 5200 feet to 4000 feet above sea level through 3 slopes and 3 poles.

But if you take a right straight road, you’ll reach Ohiya via the abandoned tea factory of Udaweriya and Ohiya Hill Safari Eco Lodge. According to my knowledge and research, it will take another 6-7kms or more to reach Ohiya.
