NELI helps children aged 4-6 years old with the weakest oral language skills catch up with their peers through targeted small group and individual sessions. It focuses on developing children’s vocabulary, listening and storytelling skills.

The Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI) programme is designed to improve the language skills of reception pupils (aged 4 – 5) and involves scripted individual and small-group language teaching sessions delivered by trained teaching assistants (TAs).

OxEd & Assessment is a University of Oxford spinout company launched to take the research of Professor Charles Hulme and his team, creators of the Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI), through to practical application in schools.

NELI includes an intervention for children aged 4-6 years % % which has been proven to improve children's language and early literacy skills.

NELI includes a comprehensive pack of physical resources to support with delivering the programme to pupils. There are two programme handbooks which provide teaching plans for each of the group sessions for the 20-week programme.
