Shogun Warriors was a line of toys released by Mattel Inc. in North America from 1977 to 1980. The line consisted of several imported toys based on Japanese anime mecha. Contemporary comic advert for toys from the range, art by Herb Trimpe.
Mattel Mazinga - Shogun Warriors
Both the Japanese Mazinger and Great Mazinger robots were controlled by a pilot who would fly his plane into a docking port that made up their craniums. The Mattel toy reflected this with a removable plane in the first two versions (called "Mazinga" on the box), and an un-removable one in the later versions (renamed "Great Mazinga" on the box).

Mazinga is recognizable by his blue and black paint job, as well as his giant red “V” on his chest. Poseidon. Notes: Poseidon was not one of the main core robots for the Shogun Warriors line released in the U.S, but he is a huge character from the Japanese toy market.

The initial wave of 3 Inch robots released in 1978 consisted of six figures, including Combatra, Dragun, Gaiking, Grandizer, Great Mazinga and Poseidon. Four more figures were released as part of the second wave in 1979, 17, Danguard, Leopaldon, and Voltes V.
