Mar 8, 2025 · In Super Mario Odyssey, Maw-Rays (referred to by this name for the first time) make an appearance as enemies, primarily in the Underwater Tunnel to the Lighthouse in the Seaside Kingdom. They are redesigned to have a more detailed appearance with realistic anatomy as well as menacing, glowing eyes.

Maw-Rays are a relative of Unagi that appears in Super Mario Odyssey. They look similar to their relatives but differ in several ways, first, their method of attacking is very similar to a Gringill or a Spike Eel. Also, unlike Unagis, they never leave their holes. Maw-Rays also have more jagged scales and their bodies aren't striped.
