Durant la Première Guerre Mondiale, un hydravion Lohner L appartenant à la marine austro-hongroise est contraint à un amerrissage forcé en Italie du Nord, vers l’embouchure du Pô. L’appareil est immédiatement saisi et livré à l’entreprise Macchi-Nieuport pour qu’elle en construise des copies.
