It is the starting pistol in all of the USMC missions except "Shock and Awe", where the player uses a M1911 as the starting pistol. Most enemies use the M9 as their sidearm, the exception being the Desert Eagle -wielding soldier in "Crew Expendable". It is very common in the majority of levels.

Handguns are great backup weapons, since they can be pulled out faster than any other secondary weapon. You should only use one if your primary weapon needs reloading or you are using a weapon that's bad at close range, like a sniper rifle. There are no camouflages available for these weapons.
