Nov 3, 2015 · The XM3 "clothes pin" bipod for the M16 rifle, seen here in its carrying case, circa 1970, was designed to provide a stable firing platform for the M16 thus enabling it to be used in the role of a light MG for close range fire support, in the manner of a BAR. The carrying case has a single slide-keeper for attaching it to the equipment belt.

Jan 13, 2025 · H&R’s contract was DAF03-68-C-0045 dated 19 April 1968 for 240,000 rifles at a cost of $170.43 each. The first delivery was made in December of 1968, the final delivery was made March 1971. All H&R M16A1 rifles were assigned serial numbers in the 2,000,000 range.

Jun 14, 2013 · Unlike others, I actually did use the M16A1 bipod....once. It was my first time in the field after basic and AIT and I thought it looked cool, until I lost it. It turns out the ones we had were notorious for falling off and they caught on just about everything when moving. It was my first and last time with the bipod.

Dec 8, 2012 · I am especially happy with the 20 round, canvas and nylon M16A1 pouches as I had nice sets of each years ago but sold them. Both of the bipod carriers contain Colt bipods with cleaning rods and brushes. One is dated 1967 the other 1973. I also haven't seen one of the M79 bandoleers in a while.

May 23, 2015 · By 1967 The M16A1 (also a Colt 603) has a full fence lower. Both used a teardrop forward assist and birdcage flash hider. Early 603s had a no-trap butt stock; later 603s (M16A1) had the trapdoor butt stock. In addition to Colt, H&R and Hydramatic were other U.S. military M16A1 contractors during the Vietnam War.

Mar 5, 2021 · When I was in basic .. close to 40 years ago now.. i shot sharp shooter. It took 4 years in the guard shooting the M16a1 before I started shooting expert. There was a definite trick and feel to shooting the M16a1 that was beyond having a good zero on your sights. Especially at 300 Meters. I did not think it was easy.

Oct 18, 2017 · The bipod legs out front would always deploy when we were humping through the brush and the wait a minute vines so familiar in the back woods of Fort Campbell would get tangled in the legs of the bipod and many times I would lose my balance and fall over due to the vines.. Carry the dragon on an air assault mission was probably the worst.

Feb 23, 2022 · Good morning. I just wrapped up my M16A1 build. I went with a parts kit from Numrich that included everything except the barrel, lower and lower parts. I used one of Brownell’s 20” A1 1/12 barrels and a lower that I had from a Colt LE6920. I haven’t had it to the range yet but I’ll post some pictures once I get it on paper.

Aug 20, 2023 · I'm actually going to turn this into a m16a1 build. I got the upper receiver checked out by a gunsmith and it's completely safe to make functional. I got all the parts just need a new barrel and I'm good to go. I'll post a picture of what the rifle looks like when done.
