Feb 27, 2014 · I have both and swap between them in my 5f2-a princeton. It's the only preamp tube in the amp. I like them both, honestly, though prefer the JJ with my Strat by a little. I do the same thing with TS & JJ 6v6's, incidently.

Mar 28, 2018 · 6v6 or EL 84. EL34 vs 6v6 is EL34 all day. 6v6 vs EL84 is 6v6 all day. I like better bass response. So EL34 or 6L6 are selected for taste. 6v6 is better than EL84 everytime for me. Most EL 84 amps or that tube in amps that take anything just dont work for me. But my Fender Pro Jr in a 1x12 cab sounds great. And it has el84s. So they can work.

Feb 14, 2013 · For most of us, wanting to find an inexpensive and good alternative to NOS 6V6 glass, they are a godsend. I still use and love NOS 6V6's in my Clark Beaufort (Tweed Deluxe), but when I had my Swart AST, I swapped out NOS for the JJ's it came with just to experiment, and while they both had their pluses, I stayed with the JJ's in that amp.

Dec 11, 2012 · I have a BF PR clone and a trusted builder informed me that the EHX 6V6's were bit brighter. He states the JJ's 6v6 are more like 6L6(bigger and warmer).. Any thoughts??

Aug 1, 2013 · I always bought JJ 6V6's for my old Fender circuits, but as a treat to myself (and with a large recording schedule approaching) I decided to buy a set of matched NOS RCA 6V6's. Truthfully, I was largely underwhelmed - the RCA's were no doubt smoother and sweeter, but the JJ's rocked harder and offered a nice volume boost at the same time.

Apr 25, 2019 · a few general words about TAD vs JJ would certainly help. I tried JJ 6V6s in the HB before, went back to 6L6 soon (TAD or Sylvania, I like both). I haven't been a big 6V6 fan in the past, it's the (major) tube I know the least. like you say, sweetness would be desirable, and I like the bubbly compression the amp has with the TADs.

Mar 28, 2018 · JJ 6V6S does not adequately represent the sonic character of all 6V6 types; The "Philips" EL34 appears to be a Mullard/Blackburn origin. The sonic character of those Mullards are generally more low-mid and bass grunt, less airy upper mids.
