The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had a presence in the island of Ireland since at least 1840, when the Elder John Taylor first preached in Newry. He and other missionaries converted a number of Irish people, forming a branch in Hillsborough, County Down.

Oct 1, 2023 · Our purpose as missionaries is to “Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.” We volunteered to serve our mission for 23-months.

President and Sister Macdonald share a bit about who they are and what they look forward to as they serve in the Scotland/Ireland Mission. I was raised in a small coal mining town in Price, Utah. My father is Ramsay Alaster Macdonald (spelled with a small “d”).

The organization of the Irish Mission in 1962 led to a period of rapid growth during which the first Church-built meetinghouse was completed in 1971. The Dublin Ireland Stake was organized in 1995, and Church membership in Ireland surpassed 3,000 in 2012.

Feb 28, 2010 · The mission will be headquartered in Edinburgh and serve members in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland in seven stakes, one district and several mission branches in northern Scotland. Since 2000 membership has increased from 2,333 to 2,772 in 2008 and there has been no change in the number of congregations.
