At a guess, if the train is configured how it is typically configured - with carrriage 'E' adjoining the Gold Lounge, the Connie Cabin should be at the forward end of Carriage 'I'. IF that is the case, Cabin 2 should be forward facing departing Sydney.

It was actually pretty functional, offering chocolate, nuts, pasties, and crisps, as well as doing proper lunches and evening meals; not much choice, but the food wasn’t all that bad.

Each Indian Pacific Gold Service carriage houses nine Twin cabins or 16 Single cabins. During the day, Twin cabins offer a three-seater lounge with space to relax, which is transformed into upper and lower berths at night.
