In Margaret Mitchell 's 1936 novel Gone with the Wind, Twelve Oaks is the plantation home of the Wilkes family in Clayton County, Georgia named for the twelve great oak trees that surround the family mansion in an almost perfect circle.

Jul 18, 2023 · My interpretation is that the Burning of Twelve Oaks represents the death of the Old South and was a foreshadowing what would happened to the Aristocracy of the Old South and the Gentlemen. But the survival of Tara symbolically foreshadowed that Scarlett O'Hara would survive the New South and prosper.
