In 1960 – the first year Fender published a color chart – it restricted the number of factory-available colors to 14 shades (plus Blond). The chart was amended in ’63, when Candy Apple Red replaced Shell Pink, and again in ’65, when six new metallic shades were included.

Feb 21, 2019 · Seeing as Candy Apple Red was not offered until 1963, there is no “accurate for an actual ‘57.” A gold or silver base coat would depend on when a ‘57 was refinished. 1963 - 1965/66 = Silver. 1966 onward = Gold. Fender stopped offering refinish services in the late-60’s.

Candy Apple Red Metallic is one of the most common colors but it's a bit less common to find it on a Telecaster model. Jaguars and Jazzmaster were more commonly ordered in custom colors than Telecasters were.
