Elrond was a mighty Half-elf ruler who dwelt in Middle-earth from the First Age to the beginning of the Fourth Age. He was the Lord of Rivendell and father of Elladan, Elrohir, and Arwen Undómiel, the eventual wife of Aragorn II. He was given the epithet of Peredhel, Sindarin for Half-elven. Elrond Half-elven is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. Both of his parents, Eärendil and Elwing, were half-elven, having both Men and Elves as ancestors.

He belongs to the most elite, aristocratic nobles of Sindar. His title during the First Age was Lord of the Falathrim. From the Second, Third, until the Fourth Age, his title was Master of the Grey Havens.

The oldest and wisest Elf in Middle-earth, Elrond sought out Círdan while in possession of the Elven Rings of Power. Elrond believed they should be destroyed, worried about the influence of Sauron in their creation.

The elf Círdan is a master shipbuilder and, more specifically, master of the Grey Havens (the Lindon region that can transport elves of Middle-earth back to the Undying Lands of Valinor).
