The E235 series (E235系, E235-kei) is a DC electric multiple unit (EMU) commuter and suburban train type operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The commuter variant was introduced on Yamanote Line services in November 2015, and the suburban variant entered service on the Sōbu Rapid and Yokosuka Lines on 21 December 2020.

The E235 series (E235系, E235-kei)（E235けいでんしゃ/E235 Keidensha) is a type of self-propelled trainset operated by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) in Greater Tokyo. The E235 series was unveiled by JR East in July 20143 as the replacement for the E231-500 series on the Yamanote line.

The E235 series design was developed from the earlier E233 series trains, and like the E233 and E231 series trains, the new E235 series trains have stainless steel bodies. The exterior styling was overseen by the industrial design firm Ken Okuyama Design.

Sep 3, 2018 · According to this article, the E235 series will replace the 217 series on the Yokosuka and Sobu-Rapid lines after 2020. Naturally, since these trains run on longer distance routes, they will have green cars and washrooms as well.

The E235 is the newest commuter train to be introduced by JR East. The first train entered service on Yamanote line from 30 November 2015, but was taken out of service with door closing indicators and problems stopping on the same day.

Fuji Electric has delivered rack-and-pinion type door systems to East Japan Railway Company for the Series E235 train (Yamanote Line), which started operation. The door system uses less permanent magnets than conventional products, thus reducing overall weight by 14%.
