Copper is a metal that is found in igneous (volcanic) rocks and sedimentary rocks. It is deposited from hot sulphur solutions created in volcanic regions, which concentrate the copper up to a thousand times more than would normally be found in rocks. The high temperatures of volcanic magma create hydrothermal veins, allowing some of the heat to escape near the upper layers of the Earth’s crust, where copper is often found in the sedimentary layer. Copper is often found in deposits with other metals such as lead, zinc, gold and silver.
