Welcome to Clare College, the University of Cambridge's second oldest college. Founded in 1326, Clare College is home to seventeenth century architecture, stunning gardens, and a riverside location in the heart of the city.

Clare College is the second oldest of Cambridge’s thirty-one colleges. It was founded in 1326 and endowed a few years later by Lady Elizabeth de Clare, a granddaughter of King Edward I (1272-1307).

In 1326, Clare was the first Oxford or Cambridge foundation to bring together a Master, Fellows, and Scholars in a single community. Today we are a diverse College community brought together by a common interest in learning, teaching, and research with around 100 Fellows, 300 postgraduate students, and 500 undergraduate students.

Many of the sports teams enjoy success, Clare Politics invites famous political speakers in to speak at College, and Clare Actors is one of the most successful and well-funded college drama societies in Cambridge.

Studying at Cambridge is a very different experience from being at school or college and Clare makes sure that all of its students are given opportunities to receive further guidance. During Freshers’ Week, current students run sessions on topics such as supervisions, essay writing, note-taking and time management.

The College has facilities spread across three sites. The main site, Old Court, is located on Trinity Lane. From here, the Avenue leads you across the river and over to Memorial Court.

Clare can be found just off of King’s Parade, which is one of the main streets running through the city centre of Cambridge. The main university teaching sites, where students have lectures, seminars, and practical classes like laboratories, are all just a short walk or bicycle ride away.
