Jan 17, 2007 · Yes, definitely go with an automatic if you're buying a gun strictly for chukar. I like using a 20 but like Ithaca says, the 12 is better. Remington or Beretta would be good. I wouldn't recomend Franchi because it could be hard get parts/service. (I've got one) Just handle all the options and pick the one that feels best to you.

Dec 10, 2009 · Never get enough pheasant to experiment but have tried a lot of different ways to use up chukar. I liked to stuff and grill the breasts. Cut slits on each side of the keel. Stuff roasted peppers or chiles and cheese into the pockets. Cover with bacon and grill. Have also done beer can chukar using small juice cans.

Dec 11, 2020 · Winnemucca and Battle Mountain are kinda chukar central. Eastern Oregon along the Owyhee river near Rome is chukar country too. Chukar are the only species that thrives on cheatgrass. Riggins and the Salmon river is like the sadistic chukar terrain. Same for Imnaha, and the Idaho side of the Snake river.

Apr 17, 2015 · Killing a chukar and seeing it crumpled and crashing a few hundred vertical below you gets you the stink eye from your dog every time. I always feel for the dog. They must dream of sitting in a duck blind. If you think chukar hunting is hard, wait til the ground freezes.

May 24, 2007 · Snuck out to the little hidey-hole near the house, I know there's a few chukar but I'd hope we could find a grouse along the ridge. Unfortunately with for little snow there is this year a lot of people are still hiking that ridge for views and workout it offers. Absolutely beautiful day to be out. The first covey broke at ~130 yds wild.

Nov 7, 2023 · My chukar days are pretty much over but I had a good run. I'm on my 3rd and last Brittany and he's in his geriatric years, blind and mostly deaf.. All 3 lived over 16 years. For the last 30 years I've been able to hunt them right out my front door and had some terrain that was much easier than the typical chukar country.
