Aug 2, 2024 · An onager foal – one of the most critically endangered animals in the world – has been born at Chester Zoo. The beautiful baby is an exceptionally rare addition, with only around 600 of the species believed to still exist in the wild.

The zoo opened Islands at Chester Zoo in July 2015, [28] a project extending the footprint of the zoo by 15 acres and built to the south of the west half of the current site. Islands showcases areas where the zoo is involved in conservation programmes, including Sumatra , the Philippines and Indonesia . [ 29 ]
