USS Topeka (CL-67), a Cleveland -class light cruiser in service with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1949. From 1957 to 1960, she was converted to a Providence -class guided missile cruiser and redesignated CLG-8. The cruiser served again from 1960 to 1969 and was finally scrapped in 1975.

COMMISSIONING CLG-8 -- Captain F. L. Pinney, Commanding Officer. gave the order for the USS TOPEKA (CLG-8) to be placed into commission on March 26, 1960 marking the beginning of TOPEKA's career as a guided missile light cruiser in the Space Age Navy.

Originally built as a CLEVELAND - class light cruiser and commissioned as CL 67, the TOPEKA was the second ship in the Navy to bear the name. Extensively converted to a light guided missile cruiser from 1957-60, TOPEKA was recommissioned as CLG 8.

Early in 1957, Topeka was towed from San Francisco to the New York Naval Shipyard that she entered on 15 April to begin conversion to a guided missile cruiser. On 23 May, she was officially re-designated, CLG 8. During the almost three years it took to convert her, the cruiser was extensively modified.
