Nov 27, 2018 · The Buffel APC was the first South African military vehicle to be used in the war of Angola with the characteristics of a “mine-protected vehicle”. It was not the most comfortable vehicle used in this conflict, but it offered all the protection that would be necessary to protect against mine explosions.

The Buffel 4×4 vehicle was developed in the 1970s under the leadership of ARMSCOR (Armaments Corporation of South Africa) to meet the operational requirements for a mine protected Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) for the South African Army, mainly infantry units.

The Buffel Mark 2A/B APC's were rebuilds of Mark 1’s which added enclosed troop compartments, rear exit doors and large front/side bulletproof windows. Lastly, the difference between the Mark A and B vehicles was based on the brakes equipped; the A with drum brakes and the B with disc brakes.

The Buffel made use of the chassis, engine and some other components of the Mercedes Benz UNIMOG Model 416/162 series 4 x 4 chassis, which was married to the armoured driver's cab and separate armoured troop compartment.

Apr 2, 2015 · As I have limited resin kit experience I am going to start on what seems to be the easiest to build, the Buffel. I will post some 'in the box' pics tonight and once that's done I shall break out the superglue and start gluing pieces together.
