Last winter I watched a deep (single) keel boat get smashed to pieces in the surf zone off Waikiki when the keel got hung up on the bottom, something that likely would not have happened with shallower twin keels.

A couple years after she was built, with naïve enthusiasm, I decided to paint the bilge just because since it's wood it ought to be painted regularly.

Jan 11, 2006 · Whatever emulsifier you settle on, Suck it up with a wet dry vac and once you are sure the bilge is oil free, rinse with plenty of water. My general approach is to use a standard old fashioned dish soap and a lot of elbow grease, but I wouldn't shy away from a good commercially available bilge cleaner if it met rule 1.
