Directions to Wildlife Management Areas Bear Island WMA Bear Island is located in eastern Colleton County near Green Pond approximately 13 miles from U.S. Highway 17 off of Secondary Road S-15-26 (Bennett’s Point Road).

The main part of Bear Island is open to birders Monday through Saturday, from 1 February through 14 October. At other times birders are restricted to areas right along Bennett's Point Road, including Mary's House Pond, which is just south of the residences by the main entrance.

Bear Island is an undeveloped 12,021-acre (48.65 km 2) Sea Island and wildlife management area in Colleton County, South Carolina, United States. It is part of the ACE Basin estuarine reserve area and is managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).

Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) - WMAs are SCDNR owned or leased lands managed for wildlife, habitat and hunting. In addition to hunting, visitors may utilize these properties for other recreational opportunities, including wildlife viewing, hiking and birding.
