Jan 20, 2010 · This coils fins were completely missing from the bottom 8 to 10 inches, about 3/4 of the way around the front and sides of the unit. Right were the dogs were going on it. The unit was 6 years old, had never been cleaned with anything other than a water hose, in a rural setting hundreds of miles from any salt water.

Aug 13, 2015 · The AC Fins are turning into dust from corrosion. The property is right by the ocean and I guess the humidity and salt must be causing this. I realized that there are some special fins from the manufacturers that you can buy but I was wondering if any of the aftermarket treatment are any good or just gimmicks?
Oil clogged ac fins - HVAC-Talk
Our HOA hired a guy to stain the fence in the neighborhood. Apparently, the guy didn’t take any precautions and sprayed the stain directly on the AC condenser unit and now the fins appear to be clogged by the oil based stain. Fin Comb - What kind do you use? - HVAC-Talk
May 3, 2009 · What type of fin comb to you prefer to use? We do a lot. 587 condensers this next week with bent fins on at least half of them. We use the plastic colored ones with one size on each end. I've tried everything else and for us these seem to be the fastest, but we go through one for every 3-6 units.

Jun 24, 2012 · Yes you can comb them out. And it is a royal PITA to do so but it can be done. Use a ruler horizontally and measure your fin spacing per linear inch. 10 to 12 FPI (fins per inch) is pretty typical for residential units. You can buy the combs at an AC supply house or eBay.
