The Eighth Air Force (Air Forces Strategic) is a numbered air force (NAF) of the United States Air Force 's Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). It is headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

The Eighth Air Force and Joint-Global Strike Operation Center's mission is to conduct indefinite strategic deterrence operations; on order neutralize the enemy through global strike in order to protect the United States of America.

Originally, the U.S. Army Air Forces activated the Eighth at Savannah, Georgia, on 28 January 1942 with three major subordinate units: the VIII Bomber Command (BC), the VIII Fighter Command (FC), and the VIII Ground Air Services Command (GASC).
