The twin 30 mm 2A38M cannon is water cooled and has been designed for operation under all environmental conditions from -50 to +50°C. It has an effective range in the air defence role of 200 to 2,000 m in altitude with a maximum slant range of 4,000 m.

The 2A38 and 2A38M are 30mm twin-barrel autocannons, Gast-type. They are mainly used on air defense vehicles like 2K22 Tunguska and Pantsir-S1 . It weighs 195 kg and has a maximum rate of fire of 2500 rd/min.

The 2A38M twin barreled cannon is the result of KBP Insturment Design Bureaus development from the GSh-30-2 30mm aircraft cannon. The 2A38M is currently mounted on the 9K22 Tunguska and Panstir S-1.

Jul 4, 2024 · The missiles are joined by two 2A38M 30mm autocannons with a maximum altitude of 9,842ft (3,000m) and range of 2.2nm (four kilometres). Target detection is provided by the system’s 2RL80 S-band radar with a range of circa 27nm (50km).

Jan 11, 2025 · The Pantsir-S2 armament consists of two 2A38M 30mm anti-aircraft guns and twelve 57E6-E ready-to-fire missiles in steered launch containers mounted at the rear of an 8x8 truck chassis. The cannons have a combined rate of fire of between 3,900 and 5,000 rounds per minute (1,950 to 2,500 rpm for each gun), and have a muzzle velocity of 960 m/s.

Pantsyr combines two 2A38M 30mm automatic anti-aircraft guns developed from the two-barreled 30mm GSh-30 gun. The Pantsyr S1 air defence missile / gun system can function in several wave bands and operate on a multimode adaptive radar-optical control system.
