Sep 16, 2021 · Gotcha and good idea on the trade as if you need to, you can replace the 12AT7 with an NOS Jan for not much more than a new one (not so with 12ax7). EH a bit brighter, JJ a bit darker, i would go for the one with less microphonics if you get a chance to audition them, otherwise whichever has less use.

Feb 5, 2020 · Mine had JJ's and a 12AT7 in the PI but I switched to some old (not vintage) Mullard EL84s and Chinese/Ruby 12AX7's all around except a Sovtek LPS in the PI and like it better. I know it says to use a 12AT7 in the PI but I like the extra punch and gain of the 12AX7.

Jul 1, 2020 · Howard Kaplan (who I think may be a TGP member) stated not to use 12AT7's in these amps. Not sure what the reasoning is but I wasn't going to debate it with the engineer of the amp. He also stated that 12AU7's can be used but I tried 12AY7's first and stuck with them.
